NASCAR 2012: Bristol Preview

Not long from now the air will begin to turn a bit cooler, the NFL and College Football will be in full swing, and that means that the Chase for the Sprint Cup is not too far off in the distance. With the cut off approaching for making the Chase, a couple of driver’s are heading into this weekend’s race at The World’s Fastest Half Mile needing at least a great finish or a even better a win.

It is going to be an interesting weekend to tune into ABC to see the action from Bristol Motor Speedway to see how this all plays out on the high banked short track. Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Marcos Ambrose, Joey Logano and possibly others by the end of Saturday are all looking to get into the chase with a Wild Card spot. There is also the possibility that Tony Stewart with three wins this year could fall out of the top 10 in points and could steal a Wild Card spot.

Do not forget as well that Bristol has had the top groove of the track ground and the progressive banking removed from that groove. This is going to mean there is less room to race and should create closer action behind the leader. I am not sure I want to be that driver leading with 10 or less laps to go, because we could see the return of the bump and run that makes Bristol so famous. Not sure about the bump and run, see the video below of Dale Earnhardt famously bumping Terry Labonte out of the way for a win at Bristol.

I cannot even begin to handicap this particular race. I know it is going to wild and exciting to see. The drivers will be strapped in a little tighter yet leaning forward a bit more on top of the wheel trying to get to the checkered flag first. I will be sitting in turn 4 to see all the action on Saturday night. Be sure to check back for pictures from the race early next week. Enjoy the race weekend and be sure to leave a comment on what you think of the race or the site, we would love to hear from you.
