This weekend we get treated to one of the most unique weekends in racing during the year. The IZOD IndyCar Series is traveling to Texas Motor Speedway for not one, but two races on Saturday night. The open wheelers will share the track with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday night. To wrap up the weekend, the big boys of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will take on a 500 mile race at the Tricky Triangle, which is otherwise knows as Pocono.
After having a week off to recuperate from the full schedule that is the Indianapolis 500, the IndyCar drivers head down to the Lone Star state for what has to be the second greatest spectacle in racing. Texas and the IndyCar Series has produced some of the best side by side close action racing at high speeds that can be found on the planet. This year we get to see two races take place on Saturday night. The drivers will go 275 kilometers in the first race, crown a winner taking half the points for a normal race, and then strap back in for another go at 275 kilometers for the other half of the points.
You have to give Eddie Gossage and his team at Texas all the credit in the world for bring excitement and new twists to racing. They consistently find a way to give the fans and viewing audience something new while staying to true to racing roots.
Remember last year that Danica Patrick had one of her best runs of the season at Texas. She is fresh of a top ten finish last week at Chicagoland in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. I look for her to be a contender in both the races on Saturday night. I will also be looking for JR Hildebrand to bounce back and be up near the front of the running order in the races. Overall, Texas is like Talladega for IndyCars. Closing racing and hold your breath excitement throughout the entire event. You just never know what is going to happen and who is going to take the checkered flag.
Pocono, a triangle track with three turns that all have different banking. From what I have read as well, we can look forward to the drivers being able to shift again on the track to get better speed and launch off of turn two this year. You cannot make the car feel good in all of the turns, so who makes the car feel the best in the majority of the turns could run away with the race. Oh, and look for fuel mileage to be a big factor for the third week in a row as well.
So who to pick for fantasy racing this week? I am going to have to go with Denny Hamlin. Although I am picking Hamlin as my main starter, there are a number of drivers who you could go with. I look for Dale Earnhardt Jr. to have a nice run this weekend. I can also see Kevin Harvick being in the mix as well. Do not count out Tony Stewart. The weather has gotten hot and that means Smoke is ready to go. Finally, Jimmie Johnson is lurking and could ignite the afterburners at any time.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter @troublinturntwo for all of the action this weekend. We will also have recaps of each of the races this weekend. Have a great one, and be sure to drop us a line on any of articles with your thoughts. We would love to hear from you.
