With six races now complete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, thought we would take a look at some of stats on the season. Some of these stats are thrown out on the broadcast from time to time, but I thought I would share some of the more interesting. I am not going to give the entire list for each stat, but the top three or so. Keep in mind these stats are for all six races combined. Enjoy.

Average Running Position:

1. Kyle Busch (18) 9.39
2. Ryan Newman (39) 10.06
3. Tony Stewart (14) 10.80

Closers (Positions Improved in the Last 10% of each race)
1. Juan Pablo Montoya (42) Averaging 5.2 spots gained. 31 positions gained.
2. Kevin Harvick (29) Averaging 3.7 spots gained. 22 positions gained.
3. David Gilliland (34) Averaging 3.3 spots gained. 20 positions gained.

Fastest Laps Run (Number of Laps where the Driver had the Fastest Lap on the Track)
1. Kyle Busch (18) 12.3% of his laps were fastest for 202 total fastest laps.
2. Tony Stewart (14) 10.3% of his laps were fastest for 169 total fastest laps.
3. Jimmie Johnson (48) 10.2% of his laps were fastest for 168 total fastest laps.

Laps in the Top 15
1. Kyle Busch (18) 88.3% of laps in the top 15 for 1,655 laps.
2. Ryan Newman (39) 83.1% of laps in the top 15 for 1,652 laps.
3. Jimmie Johnson (48) 77.4% of laps in the top 15 for 1,538 laps.

Laps Led
1. Kyle Busch (18) 24.2% of laps led for 481 laps.
2. Jimmie Johnson (48) 12.6% of laps led for 251 laps.
3. Tony Stewart (14) 11.7% of laps led for 233 laps.

Here is kind of surprise stat in the laps led. Kevin Harvick has won the last two races, but he is 11th in the series in laps lap. Harvick has led only 2.5% of the laps run for a total of 50 laps. Emphasis is there on leading the most important lap.
